Humans and dogs have had a close relationship all around the world for tens of thousands of years and thanks to artificial selections, people have been able to hone in on specific physical and behavioral traits in dogs. That has resulted in thousands of different breeds over the millennia, all developed for different reasons. Nowadays, the American Kennel Club recognizes more than 190 dog breeds but estimates suggest there are over 300 current dog breeds around the world! While all breeds are certified good dogs, your personal favorite breed says a lot about you.

Border Collie

You are a very intense person who doesn’t like sitting still. You’ve always got to be doing something and when you have a job to do, you give it 110%! You’re also the mom friend/mother hen in your friend group and always keeping track of where your people are, especially on nights out.

Chihuahua

There is a good chance that if chihuahuas are your favorite, you have a big personality. Those who don’t know you might think you’re really intense and prone to anger but the more someone gets to know you, the more they realize that you are really protective of what you love and you’re actually wonderful to have around.

Golden Retriever

It is incredibly rare for you to meet someone you don’t immediately like! But if you do, it’s probably for a very good reason. You’re very much a people person and are social, outgoing, and a blast at parties; however, you also like to just chill out some days. You’ll try any food at least once and can be a little too trusting, which some people may take advantage of and give you something really weird to eat.

Great Dane

Great Danes are gentle giants who are a bit scared of many things, which means that if these dogs are your favorite, you are a clumsy stoner who frequently misjudges your own size. But you also love deeply and tend to be very mellow. There’s also a strong possibility that Great Danes are your favorite because you watched too much Scooby-Doo as a kid.

Greyhound

If greyhounds are your favorite, you are a strong, quiet person who seems a little intimidating at first. But once people get to know you, they realize that you have a big heart! You’re also great to have around in stressful situations, as you tend to stay calm.

Husky

If you love huskies the most, you are independent, stubborn, very opinionated, and not afraid to share what you think! There’s also a good chance you love the winter and being active, with winter sports like skiing, snowshoeing, or snowboarding being some of your favorite things to do.

Labrador Retriever

You are an intensely loyal, active, and smart person who might get a little distracted from time to time. While you have an inviting personality that many people love, you do have a small group of people you prefer hanging out with.

Pug

You may not be the most active or even well-coordinated person in your friend group but you always get back up and try again! You’re more likely to be found at brunch or the spa than hiking a mountain but that doesn’t mean you don’t like nature, as walks on the beach or picnics in the park are so much fun.

Dogs and humans have coexisted and even evolved together for tens of thousands of years and with several hundred dog breeds, there are so many different types of dogs! While a dog’s breed isn’t a guarantee of their individual temperament and personality, there are some general characteristics that are often true. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do another post like this soon!

What is your favorite dog breed? Do you think I got these right? Let me know in the comments!
